We are wanting to find people who would be willing to join the network hub we are proposing to set up for the North Devon area. We are members of the Permaculture Association.
Who are we?
We are a fledgling agroforsetry project focusing on community, education and well being. Our goal is to connect people and nature together. Using permaculture techniques we plan to help people to learn how to grow food and live a positive impact life. We are also very much into the People and Permaculture side of things and are interested in working with young disadvantaged people among other groups and others with mental illness.
So why are we writing this blog post?
When we bought our land and started to set our project up we didn't know of any other projects like it in the area. It took a couple of years before we found like minded people. We wanted to make it easier for people to reach out to others in the North Devon.
We recently did a crowdfunder campaign to raise funds for our project North Devon Permaculture. http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/north-devon-permaculture As part of this campaign, we set ourselves some aims. One of these was to become a network hub for like minded people in the North Devon area, who are into sustainability and building people and land systems that have a positive impact on the environment. These individuals or organisations do not have to be into or know about permaculture but rather, be people who are working towards the same goal, ....take care of each other and the earth.
We are still in the process of setting up our project and are currently working on facilities to have volunteers, to help us manage the land, in order to make it more accessible for workshops and courses. This will then allow general public to access the site.
We know you are some of these like minded people.
What do we want to achieve?
We want to create a network of permaculture and non permaculture sites across the North Devon area and to expand permaculture into the mainstream, hopefully introducing permaculture to those groups who are interested but have not yet discovered it, those on the edge!
Through our organisation we would like to link groups or individuals up who have a specific need, some may have a skill that someone else is looking for. We felt it would be easier to go through a central point which was quicker and easier to locate or instead of paying for adverts in newspapers.
We'd like to be able to link people up too, who may not be great with the internet or social media but welcome the support someone else can give them.
To begin with though we need to see who would be interested. Then we can build the network from there.
So what do you need to do?
We would simply like to know if you would be interested in being part of this network for North Devon. If you are, please let us know by May 31st, if not then we hope you'll give it some thought for the future. Once we know how many people are interested we can start to build the network togetherand we'll put suggestions to you for how we move forward.
